Makarios Satellite Earth Station is located in Cyprus and is owned and operated by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta). Cyta has more than 15 stations available in its network, which constitutes the main telecommunications network in Cyprus. Cyta's most impressive satellite network is fully supported by its fibre optic cable network.

In 1980 the first Satellite Earth Station at Makarios become operational. Since then, Makarios Earth Station has provided access to the following principal satellite systems:

• INTELSAT

• EUTELSAT

• GORIZONT

• SIRIUS

The Earth Station facilitates not only Cyta's telephony and other telecommunications services, but provides transmission and reception of television programmes, as well as supporting dedicated customer services and providing a gateway for other regional and international operators.
